The Singapore math method, renowned for its effectiveness, is focused on mastery, achieved through intentionally sequencing concepts. Some of the key features of the approach include the CPA (Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract) progression, number bonds, bar modeling, and mental math. Instead of pushing through rote memorization, students learn to think mathematically and rely on the depth of knowledge gained in previous lessons. An attitude that math is important and approachable is also essential. Students perform at a higher level when their potential for understanding and success is assumed.

Times Tales is actually the brainchild of Jennie Winters. While Jennie was teaching her two boys the times tables, she noticed they were having a difficult time, consistently struggling with certain problems. Answers for the lower, easily calculated facts weren’t a problem, however, the upper times tables just wouldn’t stick. To overcome this problem she incorporated a commonly used memory tool called mnemonics and transformed the higher facts into a memorable story.
