“Using Visual and Instructional Supports to Teach” is a professional development course designed for educators, support staff, and parents who work with learners who need additional support in processing and understanding information. The course provides strategies for integrating visual aids, structured instruction, and multi-sensory supports into teaching practices.
Participants will learn to create tailored supports that enhance comprehension, engagement, and independence for students with various learning challenges, including ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, language processing disorders, and other neurodiverse profiles. This course emphasizes practical tools and techniques that can be adapted for various subjects, settings, and age groups to promote inclusive and effective learning experiences.
You Will Be Able to:
Understand the Role of Visual Supports: Explain how visual supports, such as schedules, charts, and graphic organizers, help organize information and improve student engagement and comprehension.
Develop and Implement Visual and Instructional Supports: Design and apply specific visual aids and instructional supports that cater to the diverse needs of learners, particularly those with language processing and executive functioning challenges.
Customize Supports for Individual Learners: Tailor visual and instructional supports based on individual student needs, preferences, and learning profiles, including sensory processing and communication requirements.
Integrate Multi-Sensory Learning Techniques: Incorporate auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic elements into visual supports to enhance learning for students with varied processing needs.
