Course Overview

Discover the human body in medical terms. You will learn how the body (anatomy) is divided, the names of specific body parts, and what the body and its systems (physiology) do with those parts.

This course provides an in-depth study of the human body’s structure and function. It covers the body’s organization, cell structure and function, and major organ systems, including the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems.

Students will explore how these systems interact to maintain homeostasis and learn key medical terminology to describe anatomical structures and physiological processes. Emphasis is placed on understanding the relationship between form and function and the impact of diseases and disorders on body systems. 

You Will Be Able to:

• Understand Body Organization: Identify and describe the levels of organization in the human body, from cells to organ systems.
• Explain Cellular and Tissue Structure and Function: Understand cell structure and function, the different types of tissues, and their roles in the body.
• Identify and Describe Major Organ Systems: Describe the structure, function, and interdependence of each major organ system, including the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems.
• Demonstrate Knowledge of Homeostasis: Explain the concept of homeostasis and its importance in maintaining stable internal conditions.
• Analyze System Interactions: Discuss how each system supports vital bodily functions and responds to environmental changes.
• Use Anatomical and Physiological Terminology: Use appropriate medical and scientific terminology to describe anatomical structures and physiological functions accurately.
• Identify the Impact of Diseases and Disorders: Recognize common diseases, disorders, and conditions associated with each organ system and their effects on body function.
• Develop Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills: Apply anatomical and physiological knowledge to case studies and scenarios illustrating health issues and real-life applications.
• Prepare for Advanced Study or Health-Related Careers: Develop a foundational understanding of human anatomy and physiology, which is essential for advanced study in biology, medicine, and healthcare.
